So much pain in the hips and legs right now. I just had to lance my blisters to get relief there as they weren't going away on their own. That, however is meant to preface this statement:
I want to run.
Odd, isn't it? A few years ago I would have never dreamed that I'd crave wanting to run, and now I'm missing it. I know, I KNOW I have to take time to heal after these races, but I'm itching to be back in WDW in 2015 and run the 10K (and maybe the Half again...we'll see ;-) ) so I can at least be Perfectly Minnie!
It was such a great experience, and I am planning on talking to my Principal in the upcoming weeks about maybe securing some time off so I can keep this goal up!!

Back after the hiatus, but with GREAT NEWS!!!
Well, if you can't tell by the date of the blog post, this is the Sunday of the 2014 WDW Marathon Weekend!! These past two days have been simply MAGICAL! Pun intended!!
Let's go with a recap of the whole experience of this event!
I left North Carolina with the "Polar Vortex" coming in, and it was 2 degrees when I started the car. Two. Degrees. Granted, it only went up to 34 in Florida by the time I arrived, but still...better than 2!
Arrival to POP Century resort was very exciting. I've never stayed at this resort and to do something new in life, I guess it's only fitting that I keep with the theme by staying somewhere new!! I am staying by Lady and the Tramp, on the ground floor (needed after the way my feet felt yesterday...more on that later!!), and it's all by myself (Amanda couldn't come, she's teaching :-[ ).
Next came the Runners Expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports! First thing, waiting in line for the New Balance runDisney shoes. Of course, this line was just to get a number so you could be seen for the shoes at their booth on the convention floor. This took from 9:45 - 12 noon just to get through the line to get my number. I was number 0741. Had a while to wait, so I got my bib numbers and my shirts, and did some shopping.
Met Jeff Galloway and had him autograph my race program, and we even talked about my racing journey using his method. He not only listened to me like an old friend, he offered such great encouragement and advice!
So, after a long wait, my number came up at the New Balance booth! I got myself a pair of their Goofy style shoes, and bought Amanda a pair of the Minnie Mouse style shoes! They're limited edition, and I must admit, they're nice!!!
So, after getting the shoes, it was time to sleep and enjoy the next day in the parks! Went to Hollywood Studios and rode a few rides, but didn't tax my legs since I had two days of races coming up. The reason I chose Hollywood Studios is that it's smaller and I can do what I wanted in less time! Plus, single rider lines get you through nice and quick!!
Once I got back to the hotel room, I made sure to take full advantage of the other bed not being used in the room to lay out all of my running related material. I got my clothes ready, my gels packed in my new running pouch (which, btw, truly was amazing to have. I don't usually run with new things on a race day, but this was perfect!), and my bib laid out with the pins, all ready to go bright and early at 1:30 in the MORNING! Oy!!
So, after I was ready with everything, I made sure to catch the first shuttle out to the staging areas (all of the races started and ended around Epcot). There was a really fun DJ there with music playing, but to be honest I was so nervous about my first 10K to enjoy it! I was "in the zone" so to speak. They staged me in the last corral, and there were SO many people there to run this Inaugural 10K!! 10,000 people!!! 7,000 of which were part of the inaugural Dopey's Challenge!!
The course took us outside Epcot, and we didn't even enter the park until after the first 5K! On my way in, I got to see characters on the side of the road, and even stopped abruptly to salute one of the military men from Toy Story!
The course took us into World Showcase, and through the boardwalk, then down and out Epcot to the Finish! As quickly as it started, my first 10K, and WDW's first 10K was over!! Such a successful race!!
The day followed with a trip to Epcot (short trip, gotta keep the legs fresh) and then back to the hotel to get everything ready to do it all again in the morning!!
The Half Marathon was even more intense than the 10K! Over 20,000 runners!!! I wasn't in the last corral, and that helped me to ensure that I finished! I even got to talk to the announcers at the start line (he called us the penultimate corral, and said he'd be shocked if we knew what it meant...i told him and he was like "20,000 runners, and i have the one guy that knows the answer!"). So, off to another race!!
The course took us up through to and through the Magic Kingdom, back down and through Epcot! 13.1 miles. Such a crazy awesome race! I'll remember running through Cinderella's castle, seeing "Santa" (another runner that looked and dressed like Santa) being pulled from the race by the costumed Disney Reindeer so they could get their picture with him, the guy running with a sousaphone on, and actually FINISHING my first Half-Marathon!!!
So there you have it! 19.3 miles. 2 days. Months of training culminating in successful finishes!! I am so happy about my accomplishments and I still cannot believe that I did it! I'm so thrilled, and these were terrific races to have for my 2013 new years resolution!! What better place to do so than in the place where dreams come true!!
"There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow...Shining at the end of every day! There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow...and tomorrow is just a day away! Man has a dream, and that's a start. He follows his dream, with mind and heart. And when it becomes a reality, it's a dream come true for you and me!! So there's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow. Shining at the end of every day! There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow...just a dream away!!!"

Been a while....but it's a good thing!
Hello world! Been a LONG time since I've blogged about the running journey! So, let's catch up, shall we?!
I am not doing LMP during training anymore, as that was fatiguing my legs and while I felt stronger physically, I was also drained due to the extreme amount of workouts combined with the rest of life. When you work close to 13 hour shifts at night, regardless of it being 3 days a week, it messes with your sleep/workout/life schedule!
I've run two 5K's with good times! My last 5K was the Christmastown 5K in McAdenville, NC and I ran it in 45.46, which is a 14.46 pace. While that may seem "slow" since I'm shooting for a comfortable 15 min/mile during both races, I have to state that I ran 8 miles the night before and was not feeling great after that run. To know that I can make that pace time, after running over a 10K, gives me great hope for the back to back races at WDW!
I have started Tai Cheng, in hopes of gaining more mobility back with my body and to balance and reset.
This week has another 3 miles with Magic Mile at the end of the week! Hoping I can really do better on this, as my last one was pretty rough (my leg cramped within the first 20 steps of running).
My girlfriend gave me my early Christmas presents of new Brooks running shoes, running gloves (its getting cold!) and a new balaclava! Combined with compression socks I bought, with clif running gel, I'm getting excited about race day!
34 days!!
There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow...

Welcome back from a hiatus!
Welcome back!! Woo hoo! Just got back from a week at WDW for a family vacation and it made me realize that I am SO glad we are not going to be running those races in AUGUST with all of this heat!! It was basically the story of "step outside and pour sweat". I took a break from running for a bit, mainly because of starting graduate school and over-exerting myself and causing some injury. All of that training was just "bonus" though, as the official training program does not begin until September, so I'm still golden!
Been eating right since I got back from WDW, and about to go do some weight training. I am going to attempt to do a workout program of Les Mills Pump on non-running days to build lean muscle, and then just run following Jeff Galloway's plan on those days. Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday LMP and Monday, Wednesday, Friday JG, Saturday Rest. Very excited!
Speaking of which, time to hit some LMP!
Cya!

p.s. someone should call the police and report a murder, because I just killed that workout!

Staring off on a new week!
Well, this past week basically was resting. I don't know what happened, but my body crashed. Maybe I was sick? fatigued? exhausted beyond belief?...but all I did was work, rest, repeat. ESPECIALLY this weekend. So much sleep!!! It's fine, there's 239 days until race weekend, so it's not like I've completely sabotaged my training schedule. 4 miles is the goal for this week! Today, strength and stretching. Oh, and today starts the first day of my Master of Music Education program at Boston University!! Here's to new starts!!
Shining at the end of everyday...

Slacking, slacking, slacking...
No excuse, just plain haven't been training the past few days. I had that terrific run on Sunday, and I haven't done much since then. I have no clue if I am just burned out, if I was overexerted, or what; but I'm going to have to get back on track! Time to suck it up, and get in a 2 mile run tomorrow!! More water, more focus on my diet, and less of this crazy. I've had 3 days off of doing this, it's time to get back on track!!
There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow...

Hard work pays off!
So, on Sunday, I got off work that morning after a 13 hour shift, and that was after being up and traveling for a trip to Boone for 16 hours prior to that (8 hours of sleep between), so needless to say, I was a bit tired! It has been a torrential downpour here for the past 2 days, and of course, no one wants to run in the rain. This is what I posted to Facebook regarding working out in "less than ideal" situations.
- "Don't even say you don't have time to train, workout, etc. You may have a different reason, but time isn't one of them. I just worked a 13 hour shift, and got ready, and ran my 3.5 mile today. Not only that, but it was a terrific run!! My miles were great (all under my pace goal!) and I ran in a torrential downpour (again, no excuses because of rain....now if it was thunder + lightning, yes...) and still rocked it. Week 2, in the bag. Bring it on week 3!! :-D"
During my 3.5 mile run, these were my mile times:
Mile 1 - 15.16.49
Mile 2 - 15.10.00
Mile 3 - 15.40.00
Last 1/2 mile - 7.08.94
Keep in mind, this was during horrendous conditions. My shoes and socks were soaked, I was frozen up until Mile 2 (then I warmed up from the running), and there was no inch of my body that the rain missed.
Man has a dream, and that's the start...
